Rare Appearance for
"Vintage Notes" at Old Courthouse
One of north Georgia's best kept
musical secrets is the band, Vintage
Notes. Many people
have never heard of them simply because they seldom make a public
appearance.
The band got its start about seven or eight years ago when Joe
Leone and Doug Davenport got into a conversation about classical
jazz and the old, easy-listening favorites. Their conversation led
to a jam session which led to the formation of the band. They took
their name from the kind of music they play, such as "Autumn
Leaves," "Summertime," and "String of Pearls."
The first band members were Joe Leone, Jim "Pappy" Doughty, and
Doug Davenport. Joe Leone is credited with being the mentor,
leader, and inspiration for the group. He was a keyboard player who
had performed professionally from Florida to New York.
Unfortunately, Joe died at the age of ninety- three about two years
ago. "Pappy " Doughty played bass for about three years until his
health forced him to give up playing. Doug Davenport, drummer, has
kept the beat of the group going from the start to the
present.
The current band members, in addition to Doug, are Jack Warner and
Dr. Douglas Nuelle. Jack, from Morganton, is involved with the
train at Blue Ridge during the week, and is in demand whenever
topnotch musicians are needed such as the USO show presented
regularly at Young Harris College. Jack plays the keyboard. Dr.
Nuelle from Blue Ridge plays standup bass. Delila
Davenport, serves as band coordinator, and occasional vocalist and
percussionist.
One thing is for certain: Anyone who has heard Vintage
Notes has wanted to
hear them again. In fact, requests from loyal fans are already
coming in. The band has agreed to play, "Moonlight in Vermont," "It
Had To Be You," "The Girl from Ipanema," and, of course, "Georgia
On My Mind."
Vintage Notes

special occasions for causes in which they believe. They have
gladly and willingly donated their time and talents to this special
program at The Old Courthouse on the Square. All of the proceeds

CASA
is a national organization
of volunteers who try to see that children don't get stuck in the
system or fall through the cracks and be forgotten.
In 1990, the
US Congress encouraged the expansion of
CASA programs with passage of
the "Victims of Child Abuse Act." Today, they have grown to a
network of more than 59,000 volunteers that serve 243,000 abused
and neglected children through 900+ local program offices
nationwide. Their advocates, also known as "volunteer guardians ad
litem" in some jurisdictions, are appointed members of the court.
Judges rely on the information these trusted advocates
present.
