Mountain music, arts and crafts, and living history activities are
featured at the Marketplace, to
keep the area’s rich mountain heritage alive. It’s a fun-filled
family event, with something for all ages. Some of the highlights
of the Labor Day weekend event are:
1. all-day musical performances coordinated by Sam Ensley;
2. high quality Appalachian crafts, from basketry to pottery to
woodcrafts;
3. traditional foods such as homemade preserves;
4. living history around the Civil War-era log cabin, including
soldiers in period costume;
5. old-time cast-iron cooking over an open fire;
6. family activities from farm animals to gold-panning; and
7. descendants of pioneer families on hand to answer your questions
about local history.
Everyone
is invited and encouraged to join in these heritage festivities
